"Is not this whole world an illusion? And yet it fools everybody."
- Angela Carter
There are relationships we hold as human beings with our self and the world around us depending on how we were socialized. Our peers, family, and society at large play major roles in how we construct our personality, behaviors, and concept of self. There is a type of fluidity that travels from the outside through us and my paper will take these gray areas and bring them to light.
For my paper, I attempt to understand these relationships as they relate to our identity and gender by analyzing Angela Carter's collection Fireworks: Nine Profane Stories. Through this collection, Carter has created a language seated in the postmodern of how people feel living in blend of illusion and reality.
